Welcome to LOTRO-crafting!

NEWS - 31st March

Ok folks, this is important. I am NO LONGER going to be maintaining lotro-crafting. It took me long enough to admit it to myself, but this is way too much work for one (small) hobbit to do on her own. I know people have offered help, but again, being honest, I'm probably too much of a control freak to have let that happen. However, I will be keeping this site live, until someone tells me they want to take it over.

I'm NOT looking for any cash. I just want someone who has the ability, and the time that I do not have, to give this site the makeover that it deserves (and grind entering recipes!). Please send me an email if you are interested. I will pass over the database (it's in SQL Server 2005), the webpages (asp.net, designed in Visual Web Developer), the spreadsheet with all the missing recipes on, and the rights to the web domain.

Sorry it came to this, but it has begun to feel more and more like a chore to log in and do data entry when I could be playing the game (or working on other projects - like real life).

There are plenty of other sites to get this information - yes, I presented it slightly differently, but the data IS out there. I suggest you look at the following for great sites with plenty of information:

The LOTRO Lorebook, Lotro Life

I'm releasing this info a day early because I didn't want people to think it was an April Fools Day joke (it's NOT).

As at 19th March - Missing Recipes - in Database/Total known - all other professions are fully in the DB as far as I know :)

  • Metalsmith: 349/379 (30 in file)
  • Scholar: 17/84 (67 in file)
  • Tailor: 5/692 (687 in file)
  • Weaponsmith: 11/201 (190 in file)
  • Woodworker: 11/176 (165 in file)

Recipes in DB: 762/1901 (1,139 to go argh!)

Future Plans:

In vaguely the order I'm intending on working on them

  1. Add all the other recipes!
  2. Add missing pictures
  3. (internal DB modification - have one large table with all item stats in it, instead of separate tables for jewellery, armour etc)
  4. Redesign recipe pages so that "basic" item created on left, recipe info in middle, critical item on right
  5. Add drop down lists to armour listing pages and weapon listing pages so you can select type & slot
  6. Continue adding NPC inventories
  7. Tidy up crafting mobs/rares/mastery pages and make the "show recipe" detail pages have a nested table for tier & vocation rather than duplicate lines.
  8. Add pages so you can see what is available in a village & area (maybe include maps?)
  9. Change quest detail to more of a summary but all the relevant links to NPCs etc
  10. Add more quests

17th March

Pretty sure I've now gone through all the name changes, deleted obsolete recipes and made a start on some new ones. The reason why recipe NUMBERS don't seem to have gone up much is that I've got rid of a few that no longer seem to be in game.

LOTRO Connect 2008 convention, Birmingham, England

Codemasters Online held a global gaming event on March 14th/15th in Birmingham, England, called "Connect 2008". They presented all of their games there (like Lord of the Rings Online, D&D Online, Archlord, RF Online and others) as well as introducing some new ones (Jumpgate Evolution). The event was attended by game developers.

I (Ariadne) was there (on the Friday)! here's my --Writeup--

13th March

  • Continuing to amend names as changed by a recent stealth(ish) patch. Another 100 or so recipes, let alone items etc need to be changed.

3rd March

  • Completed food costs table- now auto-updated

18th January - no recipes today, instead updated rare drops list to include most mobs that drop shards (hopefully all, but I'm keeping options open in case I missed any!

16th January - yes I'm still adding recipes, not always adding new comments, but I am keeping to my resolution!

11th January

New Years resolution went out of the window earlier this week when I caught the virus that currently is affecting 1/8 of the UK :( Started re-entering recipes again today.

2nd January 2008

  • Corrected names of "Hardened/Heavy Dwarf-Iron" recipes to "Dwarf Hardened Iron" recipes as per in-game change.
  • Added a few missing pictures.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Resolution: to get back to adding stuff to the database. My aim is to add 10 new items/recipes or work an hour at least every day!

Recipes in database as at the end of 2007: 545

Items in the database as at the end of 2007: 1538

31st October

Well I couldn't do these changes on my own, so my wonderful web guru Simetac stepped in again and offered his wisdom!

  • Recipe listing now shows links to both the basic item created, and the critical result
  • Item listing now shows the colour of the item without having to click on the link

10th October

  • Added some more recipes
  • Added Class to recipe page (eg Weaponsmith!)
  • Had a go at trying to get it to show critical item created on recipe listing page, with a hyperlink, but gave up and will wait until I can confer with my web guru!

3rd October

Continuing to enter recipes, slowly but surely. Added some more of the missing pictures. Corrected some spelling errors

  • Decided, as a result of realising how many recipes I HAVEN'T got on the DB yet to put development on hold until I get more content!
  • Made the "crafting" items, "consumable" items, and "class specific" links actually do something other than just take you to the full item listing page
  • Added food, armour, weapon, and jewellery stat info to item detail

July 2007

  • Created & populated jewellery stat table

  • Finished adding in all Farmer recipes
  • Added apprentice Metalsmith recipes (the autogained ones)

  • Added Provisioner, Novice Weaponcrafter, Supplier inventories
  • Added 69 NPCs, 1 recipe, 14 items
  • Added all Forester recipes
  • Added Grocer inventory

  • Added ability to sort recipes by vocation
  • Added crafting progression quests to vocation detail pages
  • Added ability to be able to sort items viewed by item type (click on the header)

Changed the way the menu is laid out. This will mean it's easier for me to add submenus etc, although the other way was neater codewise, this is more flexible (I hope!)

Updated Novice Cook inventory after game update. Swore a bit about the removal of item categories, but decided to leave them in for the moment in case they come back in game.

rest of May 2007

  • With the help of Simetac, an old friend from my EQ1 days...re-generated the "large picture" that appears on item detail pages, so it's not an image file, it's actually composed of stats. This means it'll be searchable on later!

  • Added Mastery effects and items to the recipe page.
  • Added pre-requisite and follow-on quest detail
